Coin Appraisal Options
Choose the appraisal option that fits your collection, timeline and comfort level. PGS supports in-store appraisals, estate evaluations, safety deposit box appointments, private at-home appraisals, auction referrals and consignment services.
In-Store Appraisals
Visit any of our retail coin shops for an expert appraisal of your coin collection and valuables. Our professional staff has the knowledge, education, and resources to evaluate your coins, currency, jewelry, diamonds, and collectibles. We make cash offers to purchase collections in their entirety. There is no obligation or risk to you should you decide not to sell at that time. PGS Gold & Coin prides itself on our ability to make an offer to purchase your entire collection and estate. Many coin appraisers make offers to buy only the most popular items.
Upon agreement, payment is made to you by check, drawn on US funds for immediate deposit into your bank account, or direct cashing.
Upon request, cash payment can be made with a prior arrangement provided all verification and appropriate IRS requirements are met.
At-Home Appraisals
For your comfort, convenience, and security, PGS Gold & Coin offers at-home and in-office appraisals for a fee. Our friendly and professional staff will come to your home or office to provide on-the-spot appraisals for your items. This service is particularly useful if you are moving or liquidating an estate and have a large inventory of items to be appraised.
Auction House Referrals
For items, estates, and collections of extremely high value, we can recommend the best auction house for items you are selling. We have professional, long-standing relationships with most major auction firms throughout the U.S. we can guide you through the negotiation process to ensure you receive the most favorable rate and establish the proper reserve on your behalf. Please note that we charge a nominal 5% fee based on the final âhammer price.â
Consignment
If you would prefer to consign specific items, we can make recommendations on which items we are willing to take on a consignment basis. Our consignment commission rate is 20%. We are fully insured in the event of any loss. Once the items sell, full payment is made to you within 45 days. We can also recommend items that would qualify and benefit from certification and grading with a 3rd party certified grading service. We are authorized dealers for PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company), and PMG (Paper Money Guaranty). As authorized dealers for these services, we can assist you in obtaining the certifications that add value to your items.
PCGS, NGC and PMG Authorized Dealer Support
PGS Gold & Coin can help determine when third-party grading or certification may benefit rare coins, currency or paper money. Our authorized dealer support for PCGS, NGC and PMG gives collectors and estate representatives a trusted path for valuation, grading submissions and resale planning.
Safety Deposit Box Appraisals
PGS Appraisers will schedule to meet with you at the location of your safety deposit box. All contents of your safety deposit box that is to be appraised will be organized & cataloged by an expert PGS coin & jewelry appraiser. Photos may be taken for research purposes. All necessary information is collected and taken back to the main offices of PGS, located in Palatine. Depending on the size & quantity of your collection, you will be billed $350 per hour, and a comprehensive written appraisal will be provided to you.

Written appraisals are billed at $350 per hour, per appraiser, with a $350 minimum. Off-site appraisal travel fees begin from the PGS main office in Palatine and continue through completion of the appointment.

Travel fees are charged beginning from the PGS main office located in Palatine, to the client location, and end upon the completion of the appraisal.
When air travel is required clients are billed for PGS travel via business class and all moderate lodging/hotel accommodations.
