19.5" x 22.5" oval wooden frame housing a silvered copper shell classical bust of Grant
on a green felt background, beneath an eagle, surrounded by an laurel wreath & shield.
Made by Wm. Powell of Cincinnati, circa 1865
The unusual technique involved using shiny and frosted finishes,
making it quite attractive. The glass cover is slightly domed.
Companion pieces were made for McClellan, Lincoln,
Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
There is some slight movement in the eagle at top, as well as the left side flourish
- contained within the frame. It is difficult to discern if this is natural movement
or the slightest bit of wear from this 100+ year old antique piece.
